A wide-flange beam frames into the weak axis of a wide-flange column using a connection plate welded to the column flange. The connection plate requires a thickness greater than or equal to the beam web thickness with a one-inch minimum and must be adequate for erection loads while serving as backing for a complete joint penetration beam web weld. A five-sixteenth-inch minimum fillet weld is applied on three sides. The design of the plate and connection to the column flange is provided by the contractor.
