Concrete wall openings require specific minimum reinforcing to maintain structural integrity and transfer loads around discontinuities. Two number five bars are placed at the sill and jambs of openings, while lintels receive two number six bars for openings less than five feet wide and two number seven bars for openings between five feet one inch and seven feet wide. Standard hooks are used where bars cannot be fully extended. Jamb bars extend from floor to floor or floor to roof whenever the opening exceeds four feet in width. Vertical wall dowels lap splice with jamb reinforcing from the wall footing.
