A concrete slab over metal deck bears on a wide flange steel beam with a three-quarter-inch diameter welded head stud shear connector. Typical reinforcing steel consisting of number four bars at four feet zero inches long is spaced at thirty-six inches on center, centered over the beam. A three-quarter-inch clearance is maintained from the top of the reinforcing bar to the top of the concrete slab. A minimum one-and-one-half-inch bearing clearance is provided on each side of the beam web for the metal deck ends.
