A vertical control joint in a concrete masonry unit wall features a three-eighths-inch gap with caulking and a neoprene control joint insert. Horizontal reinforcing bars terminate at the joint except for top bars and chord bars, which continue through or anchor appropriately. The mortar joint is raked out one-quarter inch on each side to receive the sealant.
