An open web steel joist connects flush to a supporting steel beam beneath a metal roof deck. A web plate provided by the joist supplier bolts to the supporting steel beam web, while a three-eighths-inch thick stiffener plate is positioned underneath and coordinated in location and connection with the joist supplier. Fillet welds of one-quarter-inch size are applied to each plate as indicated by standard weld symbols. The metal roof deck spans continuously across the top chords of the framing members.
