A gusset plate penetrates into a slotted hollow structural section column or pipe member. The termination of the slot features a circular radius sized per the formula radius equals the gusset thickness divided by two plus two, with a minimum value of thirteen. Additional reinforcement is provided at the slot as required. Erection clearance is maintained around the intersecting plate.
