Two wood top plates are joined together in a spliced configuration using CS16 straps fastened with twenty 10d by 2-1/2-inch fasteners on each side of the splice location. The splice requires a two-foot minimum cut length, a twelve-inch minimum end length on each side, and a four-foot minimum spacing between splices. A typical sill plate anchor bolt is positioned on each side of the splice, tying the assembly into the wall studs and plywood sheathing. The allowable tension capacity through the splice is 3300 pounds.
