This assembly connects two wide flange beams using a full-depth double shear plate connection with a thickness of 5/8 inch times the web thickness. Top and bottom flange plates of specified thickness and width are bolted to the beam flanges, with shims provided as required. When grating is present, a 12-gauge cover plate is field-welded to the grating and bolted through the top flange assembly. A grating support plate is welded to the beam flange on both the near side and far side with a minimum 1 1/2 inch bearing. The grating is notched as required to accommodate the connection hardware, with bolts installed at a typical 3-inch spacing.
