An upper hollow structural section column aligns over a lower hollow structural section column through a concrete floor slab. Steel bearing plates weld to the ends of both columns at the top and bottom of the slab. Vertical anchor rods or headed studs extend through the concrete slab between the columns. A bolted connection tab joins the lower column alignment. The centerline aligns vertically through the entire assembly.
