A hollow structural section beam frames into a hollow structural section column with a continuous one-quarter-inch cap plate at the top of the column. The connection features three-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on the beam web and a one-eighth-inch perimeter fillet weld securing the cap plate to the hollow structural section column and beam. A one-half-inch gap is provided at the top connection interface. The configuration is similar at the beam on both sides of the column.
