An HSS beam connects to an HSS column using a 3/8-inch cap plate at the top and L4x4x1/4 seat angles underneath, with a maximum 1/2-inch gap maintained at the column face. The seat angles measure five inches in length and are secured to the HSS column with typical quarter-inch fillet welds. The HSS beams frame into the seat angles with typical quarter-inch fillet welds. A quarter-inch plate is added at exterior locations, and complete joint penetration welds are specified for similar conditions.
