A wide flange column connects to a two-inch thick steel plate with a yield strength of fifty kilopounds per square inch. Eight one-and-a-half-inch diameter A490 bolts and nuts fasten through the plate around the column flanges. A one-half-inch fillet weld, or American Institute of Steel Construction minimum, secures the column profile to the plate. The column size is determined per the column schedule.
