An HSS beam connects to a wide flange column flange and web using L4x4x1/2 structural angles at the top and bottom. The top and bottom angles are sized to the column width minus 1-1/2 inches for flange connections and to the column depth minus 2-1/2*k for web connections. The connection details a maximum clearance of 1/2 inch between the HSS beam end and the column face, utilizing larger sides of the HSS unless noted otherwise. Fillet welds of 5/16 inch are specified on both sides of the vertical legs connecting the angles to the column, while 1/4 inch fillet welds are applied on three sides for the horizontal legs connecting to the HSS beam.
