A hollow structural section column splice uses a connecting plate welded with a quarter-inch fillet weld at the upper member and a three-sixteenths-inch fillet weld at the lower member. A single through-bolt secures the splice plate within the lower hollow structural section member. A one-inch vertical clearance separates the aligned structural steel members.
