A hollow structural section braced frame column sits on a base plate located within a concrete block-out with smooth surfaces on all four sides. Two number 4 reinforcing bars, three feet long, are placed typically at equal spacing around the block-out. A bond breaker is applied prior to pouring concrete into the block-out. A control joint occurs at the column line, featuring acceptable flexible foam isolation joint filler products such as Ceramar or Deck-O-Foam by W.R. Meadows. A continuous one-quarter-inch sheet of flexible foam sits adjacent to joint filler sealant.
