About this detail

Hollow structural section beams frame into a round hollow structural section column with complete joint penetration welds at the top and bottom, ground smooth on each side of the column. A diagonal hollow structural section beam frames into the connection with a shaped continuity plate whose thickness matches the hollow structural section wall thickness plus one-quarter inch minimum. Complete joint penetration welds secure the column to continuous plates typically, with additional fillet welds specified on each side of the column.
