A concrete slab control joint is detailed with smooth dowels measuring three-quarters of an inch in diameter by twelve inches long spaced at twelve inches on center. One end of each dowel is greased, and the dowels are placed horizontally and perpendicular to the control joint line, held in place using dowel racks or chairs. The joint features a sawcut with a one-eighth inch radius tooled edge, centered on the control joint line. Typical slab reinforcement is detailed to terminate one and one-half inches from the sawcut on each side. The concrete slab rests on a subgrade prepared per the soils report, with slab thickness and reinforcement sized per plan.
