An HSS spreader beam frames into a structural steel column sized per plan, maintaining a maximum one-half-inch gap at the connection interface. Two one-quarter-inch by four-inch by six-inch plates are positioned on each side of the connection, secured with two three-quarter-inch diameter through-bolts in horizontal short-slotted holes. Three-sixteenth-inch typical fillet welds tie the members together, with additional plate elements detailed at one-quarter-inch thickness. The top of the structural slab is located per plan relative to the HSS beam profile.
