A channel stair stringer carrying concrete-filled pan treads frames into a wide-flange beam and hollow structural section header. The stair stringer connects to the wide-flange beam web using an L4x4x3/8 angle eight inches long, secured with a five-sixteenths-inch weld. A three-sixteenths-inch minimum cap plate and an end plate with a seal weld close off the top of the stair stringer. An additional piece of stair stringer is provided as required, with the edge of the metal deck matched to the stair tread profile. Below, a hollow structural section post supports an hss header via a three-eighths-inch plate welded on all sides with a one-half-inch typical weld.
