A continuous wide flange beam frames into a hollow structural section column using structural angles and a stiffener plate assembly. An L8x4x1/2 angle is attached to each side of the HSS column with two three-quarter-inch diameter A325 bolts placed in vertical short slotted holes at the bottom of the slot. A three-eighths-inch thick stiffener plate is welded to both sides of the beam web with three-sixteenths-inch welds on three sides, maintaining a one-inch clearance space above the column. A one-quarter-inch shim space is detailed between the connected components, and five-sixteenths-inch typical fillet welds secure the connection elements.
