An HSS5x5x1/4 structural steel column supports a W8x31 A992 beam through a 1-inch thick A572-50 cap plate secured by four 1-inch diameter by 3-inch long F1852 bolts. Stiffener plates measuring 3/8-inch by 3-7/16-inch A572-50 are welded to the column web with quarter-inch fillet welds. A W8x28 A992 framing beam connects to the column assembly via a 3/8-inch by 8-inch A572-50 shear plate welded to the web, fastened with two 3/4-inch diameter by 1-3/4-inch long F1852 structural bolts.
