A steel column bears on a steel base plate set on non-shrink grout over a reinforced concrete pier. The concrete pier features vertical reinforcement and three ties within the top five inches, anchored into a concrete footing with three inches of concrete cover. A concrete slab on grade surrounds the column with a blockout that is poured solid after the steel column is installed.
