A structural steel column base plate connection bears on a concrete foundation. The assembly includes a steel base plate sized per the structural column schedule and welded to the steel column. Six 1-inch diameter anchor rods with a 2-foot minimum embedment secure the base plate, featuring a 2-inch diameter maximum grout hole at the contractor's option. A 1 1/2-inch layer of non-shrink grout fills the space beneath the base plate up to the top of concrete elevation. Finished column ends and base plates must comply with AISC standards, and the contractor must hold the base plate rigidly in place during grouting while coordinating anchor rod placement with concrete reinforcing.
