A reinforced concrete pit features vertical and horizontal walls with a standard eight-inch thickness and an inner width up to four feet maximum unless noted otherwise. The wall and base slab contain number four reinforcing bars spaced at twelve inches on center each way, supplemented by continuous number four bars. The concrete slab thickness and reinforcement sizing are specified per the structural plan. A structural grating spans the top opening of the pit.
