A structural steel column splice connection utilizes bolted flange plates to join upper and lower column segments sized per plan typically. Shim plates are provided for erection tolerance per elevation as needed on each side. A splice location is established per plan, with an optional contractor-provided lifting hole of two and one half inches diameter maximum centered in the web.
