An open web steel joist bears onto a structural steel column flange and connects using two one-half inch diameter erection bolts through an L5x5x3/8 angle matching the column width, which includes a one-quarter inch thick stiffener plate. A one-half inch cap plate sits atop the steel column alongside a steel deck. A steel beam connects to the column flange below the joist bearing using bolted connections. A stabilizer plate measuring six inches by one-half inch by the column width is welded to the column below the beam.
