A reinforced concrete slab transitions into a thickened section bearing directly on a concrete pile cap. A four-inch capillary water barrier layer sits below the slab adjacent to the pile cap. A vapor barrier is installed under the slab and extended continuously over the top of the pile cap. Reinforcing steel bars are placed within both the slab and the thickened transition zone per structural plans.
