Continuity plates are positioned on both sides of the steel column web with a thickness based on the connecting beam flanges. The continuity plates feature a cope detail left unwelded at the column flange, maintaining a one-half-inch offset per AISC dimension "k1" and one-and-a-half-inch clearance per AISC dimension "k". Plate thickness is specified as half the plate thickness (tPL/2) with typical welded connections at the web and flange.
