A wide flange beam or channel connects to a hollow structural section column using a bolted shear tab detailed per Detail J. Cap plates are provided at the top and bottom of the beam, with the plate thickness equal to the beam flange thickness. Welds secure the cap plates to the column and beam assembly according to the structural notes. A field weld with a half-inch dimension connects elements as shown on the plan.
