A structural steel pipe column is welded to a square base plate measuring one foot three inches on each side, secured by four anchor rods embedded at least one foot into the concrete foundation. A one-and-a-half-inch grout layer levels the base plate above the top of the foundation. Fillet welds connect the pipe column to the base plate, with a one-quarter-inch weld and a five-sixteenth-inch weld specified per note one when base plate thickness exceeds three-quarters of an inch. Standard plate washers measuring one-quarter inch by three inches by three inches are required for anchor rod holes greater than the rod diameter plus five-sixteenths of an inch.
