A welded buckling-restrained braced frame gusset plate connection occurs at Level 2 framing along the weak axis of a column. A continuous gusset plate passes through the beam depth, centered on the column and beam web, with dimensions and thickness specified by the BRB designer. Grade 50 top and bottom stiffener plates match the frame beam thickness plus one-quarter inch on both sides of the gusset plate. Complete joint penetration welds with erection backing tabs connect the beam flanges and web to the gusset, and demand-critical complete joint penetration welds join the stiffener plates. Additional transition stiffeners and BRB brace connections are provided per the design requirements.
