Steel beams frame into opposite sides of a structural steel column centerline using bolted shear tabs and welded flange plates. The plate thickness is sized to equal the greater of the two flange thicknesses, placed typically at the top and bottom. Both beam top and bottom flanges receive complete joint penetration welds. Additional fillet welds sized at five-sixteenths or half the plate thickness secure the connection components.
