A splice connection for a hollow structural section member, sized per plan, occurs at the splice location. Plates weld to the hollow structural section with one-quarter inch fillet welds. The splice accommodates a maximum gap of one-half inch between hollow structural section members. Plates feature eight and one-half inch weld lengths typical per plate, with specific weld lengths of one inch and eight and one-half inches indicated for different plate edges. A sub-purlin connection is referenced for location.
