A fourteen-gauge steel plate is positioned between the metal deck and the supporting beam below, omitting sheet metal screws at the beam location. The opening is limited to a ten-inch maximum width and twelve-inch maximum length, with six-inch minimum clearances. Number ten sheet metal screws secure the assembly per typical small opening details. The metal deck low flutes extend two inches into the nearest full low flute on each side.
