Steel beams frame into opposite sides of a structural steel column flange using welded shear plate connections sized per plan. One-half inch thick typical stiffener plates align with the beam flanges and are welded to the column flanges with five-sixteenths inch welds top and bottom. A one-quarter inch fillet weld secures the connection plate to the beam web. Additional connection details are referenced on sheet S5.51.
