A hollow structural section beam frames into a wide-flange supporting beam web with a welded-and-bolted connection. A connection plate measuring five-sixteenths of an inch thick is welded to each side of the web with quarter-inch fillet welds. Three three-quarter-inch-diameter A325 through bolts secure the supported member to the connection plates. Additional one-half-inch-thick plates are welded to the top and bottom flanges of the supported beam. A maximum gap of one-half inch is maintained between the framing members.
