A hollow structural section column bears against a glulam timber beam per plan. The connection is made using top and bottom steel plates measuring 1/4 inch by 8 inches by 1 foot 0 inches. Each plate is secured to the timber beam with four 1/4 inch diameter by 5 inch long self-drilling structural wood screws. The steel column is welded to the plate with a 3/16 inch fillet weld.
