A concrete slab on grade assembly is supported by a prepared subgrade of non-expansive soil fill. An 18-inch layer of non-expansive fill sits below a 4-inch layer of crushed rock, which provides a stable capillary break. An ASTM E 1745 Class C vapor barrier is installed directly over the crushed rock to prevent moisture migration into the slab. Reinforcing steel is centered within the concrete slab per structural plans.
