A hollow structural section beam connects to the web of a wide flange beam using a welded end plate and six seven-eighths inch diameter A325 bolts installed snug tight. A one-half inch thick plate is welded to the end of the hollow structural section with a quarter-inch fillet weld. Shims are placed as required between the connection plate and the wide flange beam web. Edge distances are set at one and one-half inches and three inches typical.
