A structural steel chevron brace connects to a steel beam web via a gusset plate welded with five-sixteenths inch fillet welds on the near side and far side. Stiffener plates or full-depth connection plates are provided on each side of the beam web. A corebrace buckling-restrained brace extends from the gusset plate assembly. Low-density expanded polystyrene bead board one inch thick at the sides and three inches thick at the end is provided where buried in concrete. One-inch side and three-inch end clearances are maintained between the casing and concrete, with blockout material placed in hatched regions while leaving the gusset connection region direct contact with concrete.
