A structural steel column bears on a steel base plate positioned over one and a half inches of non-shrink grout. The base plate rests on a reinforced concrete footing, surrounded by a concrete blockout that separates the column base from the surrounding concrete slab on grade. The connection includes anchor bolts embedded in the footing and fillet welds securing the column to the base plate.
