This structural steel detail shows an HSS beam framing into an HSS column with a three-eighths-inch cap plate provided where the column ends. A three-eighths-inch weld secures the HSS to the cap plate where applicable, and a five-sixteenths-inch fillet weld is specified where the column extends. Additional notes permit the interchange of fillet groove and flare bevel welds depending on member geometry, allowing flare bevel welds to be replaced with five-sixteenths-inch effective fillet welds if permitted by geometry.
