Open web steel joists frame flush into a supporting steel beam carrying a metal roof deck. A web plate provided by the joist supplier connects the joist to the steel beam web using bolted connections. A three-eighths-inch stiffener plate is welded to the beam web with a one-quarter-inch fillet weld on each side of the plate, coordinated in location with the joist supplier.
