An upper hollow structural section or wide flange column bears onto a wide flange transfer girder via a one-half-inch-thick base plate sized one inch larger than the beam flange, secured with erection bolts as required. A three-eighths-inch full-depth stiffener plate aligns with the flange on each side, with plate width matching the girder flange width. The connection is welded with five-sixteenth-inch and three-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on three sides.
