A steel beam-to-column flange connection at the top of a column includes a top cap plate welded across the column top, with its thickness sized to the greater of beam flange thickness one plus one-quarter inch or beam flange thickness two plus one-quarter inch, maintaining a one-inch minimum. Continuity plates are installed within the column web, using the larger of the two beam flange thicknesses, as detailed elsewhere. Shear tabs are provided where required to connect the framing beams to the column flanges.
