A wide flange beam or channel frames into a hollow structural section column via a welded shear plate connection. A cap plate is welded to the top of the hollow structural section column with a one-half inch plate thickness. The supported beam web is fastened to the connection plate using bolts sized and numbered per plan. Fillet welds of one-quarter inch size secure the connection plate to the column face.
