An interior steel girder supports a metal deck and composite concrete slab, with the low flute of the deck aligned to the top flange of the girder. Shear studs are welded through the deck directly to the girder flange, and the deck is welded down to the girder where gaps occur. Continuous chair supports are placed on each side of the girder to support typical slab reinforcement consisting of number four bars at four feet six inches long spaced at sixteen inches on center centered over interior girders. A clearance of three-quarters of an inch to one inch is maintained between the deck and the top of the girder.
