An HSS 6x6x1/4 hollow structural section column extends through a finish slab and embeds 4 feet into a concrete footing measuring twenty-four inches square or in diameter. The embedded portion of the column is anchored with four 1/2-inch diameter by 4-inch long welded studs welded to the tube. The bottom of the upper HSS 4x4x1/4 column bears on a closure plate at the top of the lower column and is secured with a three-sixteenths-inch fillet weld.
