An hollow structural section stub is welded to a wide flange beam sized per plan with a one-half by eight by zero-foot-eight plate and tied into a concrete slab by others. The hollow structural section stub matches the stair post above. Fillet welds of one-quarter inch are applied typically at the connection joints.
