A concrete slab assembly features a construction joint detailed with smooth dowel bars spaced twelve inches on center, with one end coated with a form-release agent and all coated ends positioned on the same side of the joint. The joint is coated with a curing compound as a bond break before the adjacent slab is poured, and sits over ten-mil Visqueen sheeting with reinforcing sized per plan. A metal or joint filler strip is placed flush with the surface during the pour, or an eighth-inch wide saw-cut control joint is filled with sealant. Dowels are installed perpendicular to the joint and located no closer than twelve inches from corners.
